Bead Society Workshop

Today we had a workshop on photography, given by pro photog, Jamie McGrew, at the Bead Society of Orange County. Very informative! I learned a lot about lighting and camera placement. Now, to put all the knowledge to use… Like anything else, it requires practice, practice, practice!

Here’s Jamie, with his reflection device. This was a revelation to me because whatever I’m wearing (or not… I’ve tried everything including photographing in my undies…) reflects onto silver jewelry. With a “wall” of foil between me and the subject, silver jewelry will reflect silver!

Suspending this necklace (made by one of our talented members, Wendy Webb) improved the picture of the piece tenfold, rather than laying it down flat.

Before the workshop, our program at the meeting itself was with the wonderful Robert Liu, editor of Ornament Magazine, who also spoke about photographing jewelry. His pictures were lush and amazing~~of course, he only photographs the BEST for Ornament! He gave great tips and anecdotes and we totally enjoyed his presentation.

The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, where the Bead Society meets, hosted a wedding on it’s grounds today. Isn’t this the coolest limo??!!

Bear Chick Friday

It's been a busy June! See the Yorba Linda show here:

Two Weddings:

June 12 at a Japanese Garden

June 19, at the Huntington Beach Library

And The Husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with a quick trip to San Diego:

Me at Sea World--totally love this logo!

The Husband, near the Hotel Del Coronado

Meanwhile, I made a necklace for my aunt's 90th birthday in July, I've been working on a display for one of the OC Fair necklaces and I started a new necklace with lots of stars and clear crystals. The plan for this summer is to clean our bedroom and get my studio in order, so I've been doing a lot of that, too. Plus a lot of reading! So I haven't been spending as much time on the computer as usual but I'll try to keep up with the blog a little better. Things have quieted down now--no weddings or trips in sight till August, when we'll be running out to Palm Springs to meet up with a cousin of mine from MA.

So stay tuned for more posts. Honest!

5 Things Friday

Five Things I Like About the Celebration of the Arts Show:

1 I get to see certain artists and friends at least once a year

Max Yamada and Charlie Chan (Max is the artist :-)

2 It’s in a park, so we get to see lots of dogs. In fact, this year we brought a water dish for thirsty puppies

3 Had too much fun talking to people to work on a chainmaille project I brought along to do during the show

4 We have an excellent spot under a tree, where we had shade and a sweet breeze all day

5 We’re in the middle of several stages, so we hear great music throughout the show

Here’s me and my booth (note the earring display on the chair to the left of the picture. It kept blowing over in the sweet breeze so I had to give it a lower position to keep it stable...)

This is my Bead Society Buddy, Anneliese

5 Things Friday

Five Things I Need to Do to Prepare for the Celebration of the Arts Show on Sunday:

1 Card a bunch of earrings (no, I’m not asking them to prove they’re 21... I’m putting them on cards to affix to canvas frames)

2 Price new necklaces and a new bracelet

3 Gather copper jump rings and my tools, to work on a project during the day

4 Buy some Light lemonade in cans and cool it in the fridge

5 Decide what to wear--it has to be something to show off my jewelry but also be cool, since I hear it’s going to be warm

If you’re near Yorba Linda CA on Sunday, come on by! It’s a great art show, with plenty of entertainment and eats. It’s at the community center on Imperial Hwy and Casa Loma.

Here’s one of the new necklaces:

Copper Double Star

And the new bracelet:

Cherries Jubilee
