Life on Etsy Tuesday

On Etsy, and also Artfire, you can put your shop “on vacation”. There’s been a debate about Vacation Mode probably since they invented vacations. Personally, I use it when I have a show or when I’m going to be gone for a few days. But there’s a proponent for not using it, believing they’ll lose sales if they do.

Here’s my thoughts on Vacation Mode: More than once, I’ve bought something only to be told that the item sold “over the weekend at a craft show”. HUH??? Then why is it still in your Etsy shop?

That’s my fear~that I’ll sell something on Etsy at the same time that I’m selling it in person. I would hate to disappoint a customer by not having the treasure they want to buy from me.

My other thought is that sometimes people don’t read all of a shop greeting, where sellers sometimes announce that they’re on vacation and they’ll be sending out orders on such and such a date. Sometimes buyers come to an item from a search and bypass the shop greeting altogether, not realizing the seller is away. That must make for some uneasy transactions…

Even though I may miss a sale, I know that my customers will not be disappointed or unduly confused. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!

Hey Mary! I always use the Vacation Mode on Art Fire. Did it last week, came home, took it off and had two sales on Monday! I'm a believer in the system!
